Welcome to Charred!
Charred is a homebrew world for the Iron Heroes system. It combines low fantasy with a dash of a post-apocalyptic world and exploration, as well as a big emphasis on chaotic time and wild time magic. The player characters are brave adventurers who have all experienced life before the great cataclysm in one way or another, and now, twelve years after the world-changing event, are trying to get civilization back on its feet, and perhaps find out what actually happened in the center of the great wasteland twelve years ago.

While the great cataclysm twelve years ago was the most defining event in Charred’s recent history, the land has changed in the dozen years since then. Of course, a good number of records and memories survived from the time before, allowing a look into the past, and how the world was back before time tore itself up.
The world of Charred focuses on the landmass on the Southern hemisphere. A great wasteland covers most of the continent, and a small number of kingdoms survived in it. These are the last refuges of civilization, trying to fend off the dangers of the world.
Religions and Organizations
The Cataclysm brought great changes to the pantheon. It is unclear what exactly happened to the gods. Perhaps they simply lost a great deal of power, and were unable to answer the prayers of their worshipers and priests anymore, or they were torn out of time altogether. However, while some of the old churches remained, new ones have sprung up as well. In the last twelve years, a large number of churches, cults, and other organizations have risen and fallen, with only a few bringing it to any considerable power and influence.
While the world is mostly inhabited by humans, they make only a slim majority, and there are many centers of civilization that are dominated by various races. After the cataclysm, many of the isolated or hidden races were forced to venture out and seek refuge in larger communities, creating a wild mix of people living in big cities. Even though a handful of races are more common than others, it is possible to find a member of almost any race in a city that is large enough.
The house rules are mostly about character backgrounds, and contain some basic info next to actual mechanical traits.
